Care Guide

Daily Usage

To ensure the longevity of your jewelry, we recommend removing it at the end of each day—except for pieces such as wedding bands that are designed for continuous wear.

Exposure to detergents, cosmetics, chlorine in pools, hot springs, or seawater may cause damage or discoloration,
not only to gemstones but also to precious metals.

We also advise against sleeping or bathing while wearing your jewelry, as it may lead to distortion or wear over time.

Store & Maintain

To protect your jewelry from scratches or deformation caused by contact with other pieces or hard objects,
we recommend storing each item in a case, pouch, or wrapped in a soft cloth.

Some gemstones are sensitive to light, ultraviolet rays, or extreme dryness.
Please refer to our gemstone-specific care guide for detailed instructions.

SIXTH NIGHT jewelry features a signature silk-satin finish.
To clean it, gently wipe with a soft cloth or chamois leather to remove dust, sweat, or cosmetics.
Avoid rubbing too firmly or too frequently, as it may diminish the surface texture.
We suggest cleaning only when necessary.

Likewise, gently wipe the surface of gemstones with a soft cloth or chamois to maintain their natural luster.

Care by Gem

Diamond
Although diamonds are among the hardest gemstones, they can still be scratched by other diamonds or fractured if struck along certain crystal planes.
As with all gemstones, please avoid exposing them to impact or pressure.
  1. Gently wipe the surface with a soft cloth or chamois leather.
  2. You may also rinse the piece with water, following our Home Cleaning guidelines.
Sapphire, Ruby, and Garnet
  1. You may rinse the piece with water, following our Home Cleaning guidelines.
  2. Please note that Padparadscha sapphires may fade or change color when exposed to ultraviolet light. Be mindful of storage conditions to preserve their unique hue.
Emerald
Due to their natural characteristics, emeralds are commonly treated with oil or resin to enhance their clarity.
These treatments require special care to preserve—exposure to heat, chemicals, or moisture can cause the infused substances to deteriorate or leach out.

  1. Avoid detergents, warm water, or ultrasonic cleaners. Instead, gently wipe the stone with a soft dry cloth.
  2. Emeralds are also sensitive to impact and may crack if dropped or struck.
  3. Store them away from high temperatures and excessively dry environments.
Opal
Opals contain a significant amount of water within their structure, making them particularly sensitive to dryness.
They also have relatively low hardness, requiring extra care during wear and storage.
  1. Avoid using detergents or ultrasonic cleaners. Instead, gently wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth.
  2. Opals are vulnerable to impact and may crack if dropped or struck.
  3. Please store them away from high heat or overly dry environments.
Tanzanite and Peridot
These are relatively soft gemstones and may be prone to surface scratches.
Please handle and store them with care.
  1. You may rinse them with water following our Home Cleaning guidelines, but avoid using ultrasonic cleaners.
  2. They are also sensitive to impact and may crack if dropped or struck.
Coral and Turquoise
Both coral and turquoise are sensitive to acids and alkalis.
  1. After wearing, gently wipe away sweat and skin oils with a soft cloth—avoid anything more than a dry wipe.
  2. In addition to impact, please take care to avoid friction, which can gradually dull the surface sheen. For coral, repolishing may be possible if needed.
  3. As both materials are porous and absorb moisture, avoid exposure to water.
  4. Store them away from high temperatures and excessively dry conditions.
Pearl
Pearls are the only gemstone that truly require regular care.
This is because their primary component, calcium carbonate, is vulnerable to acids found in sweat and skin oils, which can dull their natural luster.
  1. After wearing, gently wipe pearls with a soft cloth to remove any perspiration or oil—dry wiping only.
  2. Pearls are also sensitive to many chemicals, including cosmetics and hot spring water. They do not tolerate exposure to such substances well.
  3. Prolonged exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet rays may cause yellowing.
  4. Avoid storing pearls in environments that are excessively dry or humid.

Home Cleaning

Jewelry made entirely of precious metals, or pieces featuring gemstones specifically noted as safe for home cleaning above, can be gently cleaned using lukewarm water and a neutral detergent.
However, please avoid home cleaning in the following cases:
  • Gemstones with prominent inclusions or structural lines, such as trapiche crystals
  • Pieces featuring beaded gemstones or pearls
  • Designs with hollow interiors, such as botanical earrings, where water may become trapped
  • Pieces that incorporate thread or fabric components
We recommend cleaning your jewelry once or twice a year. Use a neutral, fragrance-free detergent.
  1. Prepare lukewarm water (below 40°C), add a small amount of detergent, and soak the piece.
  2. Gently brush chain links or crevices with a soft paintbrush.
  3. After five minutes, rinse thoroughly with clean water using a strainer to prevent drops.
  4. Pat dry with tissue and let air-dry completely.
Ultrasonic cleaners can restore brilliance but may damage fragile stones like emerald, peridot, or opal.
SIXTH NIGHT offers complimentary annual in-store cleaning. If unsure, please contact us.
